Flood Advisory in effect for Old Forge and The Adirondacks until 6:45PM

FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 645 PM EDT WEDNESDAY EVENING.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of eastern New York, including the following counties, Hamilton and Herkimer.

* WHEN...Until 645 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...At 248 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.

An additional cluster of thunderstorms will track through northern Herkimer and Hamilton counties between 3 PM and 5 PM. These storms could produce an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. Some locations that will experience flooding include...Speculator, Old Forge, Inlet, Brown Tract Pond Campground, Eagle Bay, Raquette Lake, Eighth Lake Campground, Big Moose, Limekiln Lake Campground, Alger Island Public Campground, Golden Beach Campground, Forked Lake Public Campground, Nicks Lake Campground, Lake Eaton Campground, Blue Mountain Lake, Long Lake, Russian Lake, Keepawa Brandreth and Partlow.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
