Flying anytime soon out of Syracuse Hancock International? Beware of traffic pattern disruptions amidst latest car rental facility construction project
SYRACUSE, NY- Planning to fly anytime soon out of Syracuse?
Officials warn to beware of some traffic pattern adjustments amidst the latest construction project to erect a new car rental facility.
As of March 16, the Arrivals B loop (currently used for passenger pickup) will close to all traffic. This means roadway and curbside adjustments will go into effect for the duration of construction, officials from Syracuse Hancock International Airport said.
Therefore, all passenger pickups will occur in Arrivals A. As of March 16, all passenger pickups have transitioned to the Arrivals A south loop. To maintain safe and efficient traffic flow:
- Arrivals A will operate as an ACTIVE PICKUP area only.
- No Standing / No Parking will be strictly enforced. Drivers must remain with their vehicles and actively load passengers.
- Airport staff and public safety personnel will be present to assist travelers and manage curbside activity.
A map illustrating the updated traffic pattern is available below:

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we begin this major phase of construction,” said Jason Terreri, Executive Director of the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority.
“The temporary adjustments will ensure continued safe and efficient operations while our team works to deliver a modernized and streamlined airport experience.”
Passenger Pick-Up Waiting Area (Cell Phone Lot) Available for Waiting Vehicles:
To reduce congestion at Arrivals A, the SRAA strongly encourages drivers to use the Passenger Pick-Up Waiting Area (Cell Phone Lot) until their party is ready for curbside pickup.
The Passenger Pickup Waiting Area is located on Eileen Collins Boulevard just past Mohawk Global and allows drivers to park free of charge while waiting for arriving passengers.
Commitment to Passenger Experience:
These temporary traffic changes are necessary to support construction of the airport’s new ConRAC facility, an investment designed to modernize rental car operations, improve roadway efficiency, and enhance the overall passenger experience at Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
Once construction is complete, the project will also deliver a major benefit to travelers by adding 450 covered public parking spaces inside the airport’s garage.
These spaces are currently occupied by the rental car companies, and will be returned to passenger parking, providing greater convenience and protection from the elements for future passengers.
