Forest Rangers assist local authorities with removing deceased individual in the Croghan Tract Conservation Easement

WATSON- New York State Forest Rangers recently assisted local authorities with removing a deceased individual from the Croghan Tract Conservation Easement in Lewis County.

It was during the late morning hours on May 29 when Forest Rangers Evans and Lee responded to a report of a deceased 74-year-old from Lowville, NY.

It was soon learned that the person was last seen the previous evening when they were heading into their camp, near the easement.

With that said, it is reported that some family members became concerned and drove to the camp for a welfare check. While following ATV tracks on the way in, that’s when they found the deceased person.

Rangers worked with the Croghan Fire Department, Lewis County Search and Rescue, New York State Police, and DEC’s Bureau of Environmental Crimes Investigation to transport the subject on a Ranger UTV to the Lewis County Medical Examiner.

At press time, there was no mention of any suspicious or foul activity associated with the death.
