WATSON- A mountain biker, who suffered significant injuries in an accident earlier this month in Lewis County, was rescued thanks to the work of local responders.

It was at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, August 8 when New York State Forest Ranger Evans received a call about an injured mountain biker on the Otter Creek Horse Trail in Watson.

According to the DEC, Ranger Evans found the injured biker about a half-mile from the trailhead. The 54-year-old victim, who is from Pennsylvania, described injuries to his knees and elbows.

Furthermore, the man said he had no recollection of what happened. It was determined that the victim had also suffered a concussion from the spill.

Party members with the injured man told authorities that he had struck a maple syrup line, causing ejection from the bike.

Ranger Evans provided first-aid care, including a spinal assessment.

Ranger Hanno, ECO Jarecki and members from Martinsburg Fire Department all helped with transporting the victim to an awaiting Lewis County Search & Rescue Ambulance.

There were no other details available.
