ALBANY, NY- $227-billion. That’s the price tag attached to Governor Hochul’s 2024 Fiscal Year State Budget.

With reactions still pouring in from State Lawmakers, Senator Joe Griffo’s (R, C-ROME) remarks seem to reflect a similar echo from other officials in terms of spending.

"While the governor's proposed budget contains elements that I concur with such as additional support for the mental health system and a greater investment in education, I remain concerned with the unsustainable and out-of-control spending approach that she hopes to undertake,” the Senator said.

“Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers continue to flee our state for many reasons, including a lack of opportunity, public safety concerns and because they can't afford to live here anymore. Additionally, burdensome regulations and mandates are crushing businesses, schools and local governments. It is my fear that this budget will force many more to look for better opportunities elsewhere.”

In her Wednesday address, Governor Hochul said the budget includes initiatives to help make New York more affordable, more livable, and safer by making smart, responsible investments in mental health care, public safety, housing, education, climate initiatives, and more.
