Health experts sound alarm as flu runs amok across New York

Published on December 30, 2025

ALBANY- New York health experts are warning folks of a nasty strain of influenza that has started to run amok statewide.

This development comes to light as New York just recorded its highest number of flu cases ever (within a single week).

Though the data is according to the week ending December 20, cases and hospitalizations are going up significantly. Specifically, over 71,000 positive influenza results were recorded during the week ending December 20.

That is the highest single week period ever in New York since the state began compiling such data over 20-years ago.

Other illnesses are spreading too, according to health experts, including COVID and RSV. However, for the time being, Health Department data suggests that this strain of flu is dominating ever since being declared prevalent statewide earlier this month.

If you feel the onset of any symptoms, health experts recommend keeping away from those who may be vulnerable to severe complications.
