CONSTABLEVILLE- The Red Cross is currently assisting victims from an early Thursday fire that damaged a home in Southern Lewis County, emergency responders say.
Alarms sounded just before 3:00 a.m. when dispatch received calls for help at 5959 Church Street, Constableville, NY.
The caller said the house was on fire and there was a woman trapped in the basement, but fortunately she managed to escape, without any harm, officials said.
With that said, all occupants inside were accounted for and there were no injuries reported, according to the Office of Emergency Management.
Constableville was the primary Fire Department on scene, with mutual aid provided thanks to Boonville, Lyons Falls, Turin and West Leyden, along with Constableville Ambulance.
Firefighters initially encountered heavy smoke on the first floor, but the flames were quickly extinguished. Heavy smoke and water damage was reported throughout the home.
The address is reportedly owned by Sandor Shilling and is confirmed to be insured.
Although the fire remains under investigation, the Office of Emergency Management says the cause is thought to be electrical in nature.
Members of the New York State Police, Sheriff’s Office, National Grid, Lewis County Fire Origin & Cause Team and the Red Cross all assisted.
