WEST LEYDEN- Firefighters managed to save a family home Thursday after a nearby garage went up in flames, emergency officials say.
It happened shortly before 1:00 p.m. when West Leyden Fire Department was called out to a home at 1743 Stinebrickner Road.
The home is owned by Greg Ritter, according to Lewis County Emergency Management. Ritter called 9-1-1 after witnessing his two-stall garage was on fire.
By the time emergency responders arrived, the garage was fully involved. With the home close by, firefighter worked as quickly as they could and despite some heat damage, the home itself was saved.
The family will be able to continue living there, emergency officials said.
Although it wasn’t specifically mentioned as the official cause, authorities say the fire may have been sparked by the home’s wood stove.
Constableville Fire Department provided mutual aid, along with assistance from Constableville Ambulance.
The garage was not insured and no injuries were reported.
