New York State Assemblyman Robert Smullen has announced his bid for next-year’s race in New York’s 21st Congressional District.

A staunch Republican, Smullen is a retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel and represents the 118th Assembly District, which includes portions of the Mohawk Valley and Western Adirondacks.

Smullen’s service career in the Marine Corps lasted 24-years, including three tours in Afghanistan.

Among the several issues he will be campaigning on, highlights include growing Upstate New York’s economy, reforming education and reforming public safety measures.

Robert serves as Chairman of the Republican Conference, was elected Chair of the Assembly Republican Review Committee by his peers, and is Co-Chair of the Assembly Sports Caucus.

He’s also the author of the Assembly Republican Rural Initiative and serves as a National Board Member for the American Legislative Exchange Council.

The Assemblyman currently resides with his family in Fulton County on their farm.

The fate of who may ultimately end up occupying New York’s 21st Congressional District has been stirred up again with Republican incumbent Elise Stefanik’s announcement to challenge Governor Kathy Hochul in November, 2026.

Stefanik has been representing the North Country at the federal level now for a decade.
