
UTICA- A former corrections officer appeared recently in Oneida County Court for sentencing over his involvement with the death of an inmate at Mid-State Correctional Facility.
According to the latest from WKTV, Daniel Burger was sentenced to one and a third to four-years in state prison.
As reported previously, Burger pled guilty to offering a false instrument. He was originally charged with manslaughter and gang assault.
The case was related to his involvement in the death of Messiah Nantwi, who was serving a five-year sentence for criminally possessing a weapon. Nantwi was also indicted on murder charges in March, 2023.
He died at Wynn Hospital following an incident at Mid-State, which originally put several staff and officers on leave.
