Industrial accident claims life of local man: NYSP

HERKIMER- Authorities continue investigating an industrial accident that claimed the life of a local man on Friday.

It happened shortly before noontime at Marcy Excavation Services, town of Herkimer. According to the New York State Police, Travis C. Ernst, 58, of Lee Center, NY was working on a traffic attenuator that was attached to the back of a truck.

Mr. Ernst, who worked as a company mechanic, was killed after the attenuator fell on-top of him despite bystanders managing to free him prior to emergency personnel arrival.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, but there are no signs of foul play.

Medical personnel from MOVAC and Herkimer Fire Department provided assistance.
