It's an exciting time of year! Not just because of Christmas, but because we have lots of snow and our local snowmobile clubs are out preparing the trails for another riding season ahead.

With some trail systems opened already, there have been trailers that have been witnessed heading up towards Tug Hill as the holiday weekend nears.

If you're coming up to ride soon or if you're already here, officials are urging extreme caution for early season hazards. "Probably should wait for the groomer to go through first to clean up some of these hazards, like low hanging branches," said Lost Trail Snowmobile Club President Kevin Chambers.

Lost Trail grooming crews have been out the past couple of days. Other clubs have been grooming and preparing the trails as well. "Right now with so much snow, it's hard to see the rocks and stumps that are buried," Chambers warned. "They're kind-of in play right now, because there is no solid base around them."

In addition, snowmobile officials are warning sledders to watch out for swamps and other water areas that have yet to freeze solid.

Our Moose Trail Reports are aimed to officially begin this season after Christmas.

If you're coming up to ride, officials say it's wise to check with your snowmobile clubs for the latest conditions. In addition, officials say to anticipate rapid changing conditions.
