BOONVILLE- Members of the public and our widespread communities are invited to attend the sixth annual North Country Proudly Honors reception.
It will be held Sunday, May 7 at the Harland J. Hennessy VFW Post from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., where committee members will unveil 41 new banners that will soon decorate streets village wide.
The purpose has remained exactly the same since this this program's inception six-years-ago: to honor our men and women who have served in our armed forces, along with those currently serving and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Historical military figures local to Boonville are also included from year-to-year.
"Throughout the past six-years, this would not have been possible without all the help from our local volunteers and contributors," said North Country Proudly Honors spokesperson Bob Lewis.
This year's guest speaker will feature Col. Robert J. Smullen, who is currently an Assemblyman in New York's Legislature (118 District).
"Even though I am no longer representing Boonville in the State Assembly, I did represent Boonville and really got to know folks there and I am deeply honored to be able to come up and talk about the legacy of service for all the Veterans in the area," Smullen told us.
Smullen retired from the Marine Corps in 2015 following 24-years of service, including three combat tours in Afghanistan.

Following suit from years past, these banners will be displayed on numerous light poles all throughout the village.
Thanks to the team at Boonville's Municipal Commission, they are expected to go up sometime before Memorial Day and will come down after Veterans Day.
