LOWVILLE- Charges are pending against a driver who appears to be responsible for an accident involving a motor vehicle and an Amish horse & buggy that occurred in the North Country.
Emergency responders were called out shortly before 3:00 p.m. Monday to the scene of a car v. Amish buggy accident on State Route 12, town of Lowville.
According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, initial reports suggested that the driver of the car had left the scene before law enforcement could arrive.
So far, investigators have determined the driver was heading North and apparently failed to yield to an Amish horse & buggy.
The male occupant of the buggy was taken to Wynn Hospital for injuries that were not specified at press time.
The driver reportedly responsible for this incident was located a short time later just north of Copenhagen, NY.
Though the driver has been cooperating so far with police, authorities said this case remains under investigation and charges are pending.
At this time, the driver has not been formally identified by the Sheriff’s Office.
Members from the New York State Police, Lowville Fire Department, Lewis County Search & Rescue and Groff’s Towing all assisted.
Any new updates will be published when available.
