Lewis County man allegedly refused to leave store, became irate with responding police officers

LEYDEN- A man from the Southern end of Lewis County is faced with charges after an incident over the weekend at a local store.

Stephen J. Scheve, 45, of Port Leyden, NY was arrested Sunday by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. According to deputies, he is officially charged with counts of disorderly conduct, harassment in the second-degree and resisting arrest.

Police were called out shortly before 3:15 p.m. that afternoon to Cliff’s Market, Route 12, Port Leyden, NY.

Initial complaints alleged that Scheve was intoxicated and refused to leave the store. Once officers arrived, it’s reported that Scheve became irate and aggressive towards deputies.

Following processing, Scheve was released on appearance tickets, which are all returnable to the Town of Leyden Court at a later date.
