LOWVILLE- Lewis County Office for the Aging has revealed their 2025 Randy Streeter Older Adult of the Year.

Nelson Schwartzentruber has an impressive resume of being involved with the local community for over the past 40-years.

This includes serving as President for the Martinsburg Historical Society, playing key role in putting on the annual Martinsburg Day event and serving as Treasurer of the William H. Bush Memorial Library.

Alongside his wife, Bernadine, Mr. Schwartzentruber has also contributed his time to the Adirondack Mennonite Heritage Farm and their annual summer Z-fest.

When Mr. Schwartzentruber is not participating in some community function, he is on call to fill-in as a substitute bus driver. He also has built connections with school students while being a cafeteria monitor for Lowville Academy.

In 2021, Schwartzentruber was given the honor of being Martinsburg’s Citizen of the Year.

Mr. Schwartzentruber will be recognized in Albany in May for Older New Yorker’s Day and he will also be honored during the Lewis County Fair.
