JEFFERSON AND LEWIS COUNTIES- Lewis County Board of Legislators have officially voted in favor of buying over 30-miles of old railroad track, with intent of reforming them from rails to trails.
As part of the deal, county officials have reached out to leaders in West Carthage, NY over what would be their ownership of the tracks.
This update is according to the latest developments from WWNY-TV.
Lewis County Manager Ryan Piche told reporters that after meeting with Mayor Scott Burto, the plan is to turn over the assets in Jefferson County, while also developing a pathway in securing grant funding that would focus on a future bridge project that spans over the Black River.
Mayor Burto says his village is very much intrigued with taking ownership of the rails into their boundaries.
We have reached out to local officials and we plan on airing more updates in the near future.
