Scam Alert

Police officials are urging members of the public to be vigilant and aware of scammers, as one resident from the Mohawk Valley was recently tricked out of $10,000 over the weekend.

This development is according to a notice from the New Hartford Village Police Department.

Generally, the department says scammers typically call and pretend to be someone representing a government agency, or sometimes even a police agency; utility & tech companies; or even loved ones in need of assistance.

According to previous warnings from law enforcement, scammers are often known to create intense pressure, with a goal of getting their victims to react without sorting things through.

This includes tactics to get victims to cough up their personal information.

Sometimes, scammers will incorporate the use of gift cards in their attempts to fool you.

In short, authorities remind residents to report any suspicious phone calls, text messages and emails to local police, especially if you believe that you have fallen victim to a scam.
