LOWVILLE- An 1,800-square-foot site on Stowe Street is the front runner for what would become a homeless center in Lewis County.
Although it’s reported that Snowbelt Housing is advocating for this location because of its close proximity to Department of Social Services, one local couple living directly across the street say they have some concerns.
“We’re going to have a constant rotation of substance abuse, homeless people across the street from my house,” Laurie Widrick told reporters from WWNY-TV.
She and her spouse are also worried about the possibility of increased foot traffic, project costs and most of all – safety.
The project cost could end up nearing $14-million.
It’s reported the proposed site would have 16 total units, including spaces for those struggling with mental health, past substance abuse and for the younger adult population.
