Local resident faced with five felony counts for allegedly violating the sex offender registry

CROGHAN- A local resident was remanded to the Lewis County Jail on felony sex offender related charges.

Shawn A. Kloster, 39, of Carthage, NY was arrested on Wednesday by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Kloster is formally charged with five felony counts of violating the sex offender registry in the first-degree.

The arrest was made via a warrant issued by Croghan Town Court.

According to investigators, Kloster is accused of failing to report 5 separate internet accounts to the sex offender registry.

Following an arraignment, Kloster was jailed on $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond.

In addition, authorities arrested and charged Courtney L. Kloster, 29, of Carthage, NY with a misdemeanor of hindering prosecution in the third-degree.

Police say Courtney is charged because she was allegedly aware of Shawn’s warrant and went as far to hide him in her residence.

Courtney was issued an appearance ticket, which is returnable to Croghan Town Court at a later date.
