BOONVILLE- Thefts and burglaries… Local law enforcement officials say it has been a big problem here locally over the last few months.

In response to the latest string of thefts in Boonville, NY, the Village Police Department has issued a warning for residents to ensure their valuables and belongings are properly kept secure.

Though the village and surrounding North Country community has a solid reputation of being peaceful, the Boonville Police warns that there are opportunists that are lurking to take advantage of the good nature and charm these communities possess.

The Boonville Village Police Department has provided these following recommendations to consider:

  • Always lock your homes and garages. This includes locking all windows and doors.
  • Do not leave your valuables outside, unsecured.
  • Always lock your vehicle, regardless of where you park it.
  • Always park in well lit areas.
  • Do not leave valuables in plain view in your vehicle.
  • Never leave your key/key fob in your vehicle.
  • Consider using motion lights on your home, garage and property.
  • Consider using doorbell cameras and security cameras on your home, garage and property.
  • Post notices of your camera use on your property as a deterrent.

If you ever see anything suspicious, officials encourage that you report it to your local police agency.
