Lowville Police charge charge woman for allegedly leaving child unattended in apartment

LOWVILLE- The village police department has charged a woman for allegedly leaving her child unattended in an apartment complex.

Patrols investigated a report on Wednesday regarding a child that had apparently been left unattended. 

When officers arrived, the 7-year-old was found safe with a neighbor. 

Investigation revealed the child was left while their mother went to an appointment in the village.

According to authorities, Alexis Steria, 24, has been subsequently charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.   

Police said they observed conditions within the apartment that posed to be potentially injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of her children (police said the first count is in regards to the child being left behind while the second count is in regards to the reported apartment conditions). 

Both charges are returnable to Lowville Town Court at a later date.

The case was turned over to the Department of Social Services.
