ROME- A man is accused of criminally possessing stolen property after crashing a pick-up truck into a snowbank this week, authorities say.

Michael Sprague, age 56, is formally charged by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office with one felony count of criminally possessing stolen property in the fourth-degree.

Authorities were dispatched at around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday to the River Road in the City of Rome, NY for a report of a pick-up truck that had crashed into a snowbank.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Sprague was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado at an unsafe speed, for conditions at that time, before exiting the roadway and colliding with a snow embankment.

Despite being uninjured in the accident, Sprague, who has a suspended New York State Driver's License, also had a camper attached to the back of his pickup truck.

Through investigation, Deputies determined that the camper did not belong to Sprague. Officers from the Utica City Police Department assisted in locating the owner of the camper and determined that the camper was stolen, which the owner of the camper was unaware of at the time.

Once Deputies were made aware that the camper was stolen, Sprague was arrested and charged.

Sprague was also issued six separate traffic tickets related to the accident before being released on appearance tickets.

Sprague was turned over to the New Hartford Town Police Department regarding pending criminal charges from an incident earlier in the evening.

Deputies were assisted with the investigation by the OCSO Criminal Investigation Unit, the City of Rome Fire Department, the New Hartford Town Police Department, and the City of Utica Police Department.
