Moose Snowmobile Trail Reports for Saturday, December 31, 2022

Published on December 31, 2022

Trails Closed Valley Snow Travelers

It’s New Year’s weekend, and Mother Nature appears to have a dramatic warm-up in store.

With rain also forecasted, riders should be aware that trail conditions are expected to change at a moment’s notice. There are snowmobile clubs reporting trail closures and deteriorating conditions.

With that being said, there are some parts of the trail system holding up better than others (for now).

It seems as if the usual early season hazards are making their presence known (downed trees/limbs, open water holes and etc.) and our local clubs are urging riders to use caution at all times.

In addition, we have seen reports of sleds trespassing on private property and closed trails. If the gates are shut or if signs suggest the trails are not open, officials say it means to stay off, no exceptions.

Here are the latest updates we have gathered:

Barnes Corners Sno-Pals: Grooming suspended until further notice; poor conditions reported.

Brantingham Snowmobile Club: Trails west of Brantingham are CLOSED; no connection to Tug Hill; Kovach Trail is CLOSED and riders should avoid Mountain Tom Trail.

Long Pond Sno Sled Club: Lower trails have no snow; Harrisville Trails are poor.

Lost Trail Snowmobile Club: Trails are CLOSED.

Missing Link Snowmobile Club: Carthage side to Belfort not passable until further notice. Grooming is suspended until further notice.

Osceola Snowmobile Association: Watch for deteriorating conditions and water hazards.

Ohio Ridge Riders: No recent updates. Watch for fallen trees and other hazards.

Old Forge/Town of Webb: Fair to good conditions reported; up to 5-inches of base.

Penn Mountain Snow Riders: Trails closed until Southern Tier Holiday Hunt ends.

Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders: Trails to C-ville have held up better than others; fair to good conditions reported. Watch for water hazards.

Trackside Blazers: Trails from Alder Creek to White Lake were groomed Wednesday. No grooming plans through weekend.

Turin Ridge Riders: Lower trails are CLOSED. Conditions vary on Tug Hill. Limited grooming until further notice.

Valley Snow Travelers: Trails to Lowville and Maples are CLOSED. No grooming until further notice.

NOTICE: Local law enforcement and snowmobile club officials are warning all riders to obey any and all rules and regulations. This includes, but is not limited to: respecting closed trails and staying off from private property. Police warn to never snowmobile while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance. Watch your speeds and remember to look out for and give right-of-way to groomers on the trails.
