Moose Snowmobile Trail Reports for Thursday, December 26, 2024
Snowmobiling 2024 – 2025 is underway across upstate New York and the North Country.
During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Mother Nature unleashed the first major Lake Effect snowstorm of the season, which resulted in localized accumulations exceeding well over four-feet across portions of the Tug Hill Plateau.
That storm was prior to the end of hunting seasons across the Northern Tier, which officially signals the start of snowmobiling season across the North Country.
Even after a few more snow accumulation events since Thanksgiving weekend, Mother Nature has not been kind with keeping favorable weather conditions. The general region has endured waves of extended warm periods and cold snaps.
Some grooming fleets have been out, while others have struggled with opening their systems.
We have numerous reports that snowmobilers have been using the seasonal roads on Tug Hill since our first major snowfall, but conditions overall have seemed to vary immensely.
Here are the latest reports from around the North Country:

Barnes Corners Sno-Pals: Trails are open; grooming as conditions permit.
Brantingham Snowmobile Club: Trails are not yet officially opened.
Long Pond Sno Sled Club: Trails are open as of December 16.
Lost Trail Snowmobile Club: Trails are CLOSED.
Missing Link Snowmobile Club: Trails are CLOSED as of December 21.
Osceola Snowmobile Association: Expect varying conditions; groomers have been active.
Old Forge/Town of Webb: Trails are fair; up to 5-inches of loose base; grooming is underway.
Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders: Trails near Highmarket and Swancott Mills were groomed Christmas Eve.
Turin Ridge Riders: Most trails are open; some are thin and some are closed.
Valley Snow Travelers: Groomers have been out on the Tug Hill Trails.
NOTICE: Local law enforcement and snowmobile club officials are warning all riders to obey any and all rules and regulations. This includes, but is not limited to: respecting closed trails and staying off from private property. Police warn to never snowmobile while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance. Watch your speeds and remember to look out for and give right-of-way to groomers on the trails.
