Moose Snowmobile Trail Reports for Tuesday, January 7, 2025

Published on January 07, 2025

Lost Trail Groomer January 2025

Snowmobiling 2025 is underway across upstate New York and the North Country. If you’re a snowmobiler, you will most likely be pleased to know that a monster lake effect snow blitz just unleashed across portions of Oneida and Oswego Counties, even across parts of the Southern Tug Hill Plateau.

There are several official and unofficial recordings of snow accumulation exceeding well over 50-inches and even some select 60-plus-inch measurements, ranging from areas including Ava, NY, Camden and Taberg, NY, Hinckley/Remsen, NY, Lee, NY, Westernville, NY and others.

This is important to keep in mind, because when lake effect becomes the topic of discussion, it is easy to think about Lewis County and the heart of Tug Hill, but this latest snow storm focused well to the south in terms of the heaviest accumulations.

For now, the good news is cold weather forecasted over the next several days and officials say that should help maintain favorable riding conditions.

With that said, we are getting reports in from all over our local region and here are some of the latest developments that have surfaced:

NOTE: Conditions are likely and do tend to change on a moment’s notice. Be sure to keep checking our website for any updates (you can also check in with your favorite snowmobile clubs for more in-depth details).

Barnes Corners Sno-Pals: Most trails are open and grooming fleets have been active.

Brantingham Snowmobile Club: Stay tuned for more updates.

Long Pond Sno Sled Club: Most trails have reopened, but conditions vary greatly.

Old Forge/Town of Webb: Trails range from fair to good as of this publication.

Penn Mountain Snow Riders: Grooming fleets have been out and conditions are expected to improve later this week.

Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders: Trails are poor to excellent. Conditions are expected to improve.

Trackside Blazers: Grooming fleets have been out; trails have been thinner on the northern end.

Turin Ridge Riders: Good conditions reported; watch for thinner coverage towards Lyons Falls (NO CONNECTION TO TRAILS EAST TOWARDS BRANTINGHAM/OLD FORGE).

Valley Snow Travelers: Varying conditions throughout the trail system; Lowville trails remain open, but have been thin.

NOTICE: Local law enforcement and snowmobile club officials are warning all riders to obey any and all rules and regulations. This includes, but is not limited to: respecting closed trails and staying off from private property. Police warn to never snowmobile while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance. Watch your speeds and remember to look out for and give right-of-way to groomers on the trails.
