TURIN- The driver who crashed into some parked machinery along the roadway Monday afternoon in Lewis County has died, emergency responders have confirmed.
The accident happened shortly after 1:00 p.m. in the town of Turin, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Investigators say that David J. Kantor, 49, of West Turin, NY was driving a 1988 Ford dump truck in an easterly direction on the Lyman Road. According to police, this is when Kantor failed to negotiate a right curve, resulting in a collision with a parked trailer and excavator.
Specifically, deputies clarified that the crash itself occurred on the Gomer Hill Road.
A landing zone was established nearby for a medical helicopter and Kantor was flown to SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
However, authorities say that Kantor tragically succumbed to his injuries. State Police and their Collision Reconstruction Unit/Commercial Vehicle Unit assisted.
Members from Turin Fire Department, Lyons Falls Ambulance, Town of Turin Highway and Groff’s Towing all assisted.
