New York City Mayor Eric Adams is suing over two-dozen counties, including Herkimer and Oneida, for refusing to accept illegal migrants

Mayor Eric Adams

UTICA- It’s “outrageous,” “absurd,” and “ridiculous” that New York City’s Mayor is taking the initiative to sue over two-dozen counties statewide for refusing to accept illegal migrants.

That’s what State Senator Joe Griffo says in response to Eric Adams’ announcement to sue 30 local governments, including Herkimer and Oneida here locally.

“Oneida, Madison, Herkimer and other upstate counties have expressed significant and legitimate concerns about their ability to effectively deal with an influx of illegal migrants from the city,” Griffo said.

“These local governments and communities should not be overburdened because of a mayor who is in over his head and has continued to demonstrate that he is incapable of leading the state and nation's largest city that has seen crime rise and its population drop.”

Counties listed in the lawsuit all filed executive orders or states of emergency to prohibit hotels from housing an influx of migrants, citing that local authorities are not prepared to accommodate such a scenario.

"New York City chose to become a sanctuary city and must now live with the consequences," Griffo added.

"It may be time for the city council to consider removing the mayor to ensure that a more effective and capable leader is in place."

According to an update this week from the New York Post, there are over 45,000 migrants currently sheltered throughout New York City.
