WASHINGTON, D.C.- Reactions have been pouring in from President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address this week, including from federal figures here in New York.

"It was an honor to attend President Trump’s State of the Union where he highlighted the significant results that he has worked with Congress to deliver to the American people including the largest tax cut in history, a secure border, and a peace through strength national security agenda that supports our men and women in uniform,” said North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. "It was an honor to attend President Trump’s State of the Union where he highlighted the significant results that he has worked with Congress to deliver to the American people including the largest tax cut in history, a secure border, and a peace through strength national security agenda that supports our men and women in uniform. As always, the incredible stories that President Trump shared about the American heroes seated with the First Lady were inspiring. As Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Olympic Caucus and the Representative of Lake Placid where the famed Miracle on Ice took place 46 years ago, my favorite part was honoring the incredible Team USA hockey gold medalists - they are American icons and heroes. America couldn’t be prouder of them. They have continued the extraordinary legacy of the 1980 Miracle team and inspired a nation and a new generation."

Across the aisle, Democratic Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) could not have had a more opposite take and even went on to call the President’s address a “State of Delusion.” “Americans have never seen a State of the Union so disconnected from reality. The president's rhetoric and the country's reality are worlds apart. Donald Trump failed to acknowledge in his speech the reality millions of people face every day with higher costs, unaffordable housing, more chaos, and more corruption. Instead he blamed the ills our country faces on everyone but himself,” Schumer stated.

“The State of the Union address revealed Donald Trump is in a State of Delusion. Donald Trump painted a delusional portrait of America that hardly any working American would recognize. Americans have never seen a State of the Union so disconnected from reality. The president's rhetoric and the country's reality are worlds apart. Donald Trump failed to acknowledge in his speech the reality millions of people face every day with higher costs, unaffordable housing, more chaos, and more corruption. Instead he blamed the ills our country faces on everyone but himself. President Trump rattled off lie after lie in a nearly two-hour long speech that tried to paper over his equally long list of failures and broken promises. Americans aren’t fooled by the rhetoric. They’re not convinced by his con job. They’re not better off because of his bloviating. Americans know the destruction Donald Trump has done over the last year. They know they don’t want more of the same. Senate Democrats will keep fighting for a brighter future for American families and we will fight to hold the Trump administration accountable.”

During the address, President Trump stood his ground on his administrations policies, including tariffs and immigration.
