Non Replaceable Batteries For Your Smoke Detectors

Published on December 30, 2015

Maryland and California have requirements of smoke detectors that contain non removable batteries that last for several years. New York State is now following suit and will soon mandate new smoke detectors that have non removable batteries that last for 10 years.

Gov. Cuomo signed the measure into law late this past Monday. According to WWNY, they’re reporting that in 2017, residents will no longer be able to purchase smoke detectors that contain replaceable batteries. The intent of this law is to ensure that families stay safe and secure under instances where they forgot to change their smoke detector batteries, of which there have been many incidents recorded over time since 1961. Elected officials claim that this legislation is a true life saver and a money saver too. Just think, you won’t have to worry about purchasing and replacing batteries. Your home will be better ensured safe and sound. But, in the case where your smoke detector does go off and it’s a real life emergency, you will be glad that you caught the alarm in time, rather than having a pair of dead batteries.
