NWS ALERT: Flood Watch issued for entire listening area through Thursday afternoon
JEFFERSON & LEWIS COUNTIES- FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 A.M. EDT WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues to be possible.
* WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following counties, Jefferson and Lewis.
* WHEN...From 8 A.M. Wednesday through Thursday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff from snowmelt and rainfall may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Ice jams will also be possible in areas where significant ice remains.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Between an inch and an inch and a half of rain is expected today through tonight. This combined with warm weather will result in snow melt, with a deep snow pack in place across the Black River basin. This will cause rises on the Black River, Moose River, Independence River, and Beaver River as well as other tributaries. There is a risk of flooding due to high flows or ice jams.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
ONEIDA COUNTY- FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 P.M. WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues to be possible.
* WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following areas, Northern Oneida and Southern Oneida.
* WHEN...From 2 P.M. Wednesday through Thursday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff from heavy rain and snowmelt may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Ice jams will also be possible in areas where significant ice remains.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Between three quarters of an inch and an inch of rain is expected Wednesday through Thursday morning. This combined with warm weather will result in significant snowmelt. This will cause rises on the Black River, Mohawk River, as well as other smaller tributaries.

OLD FORGE & WESTERN ADIRONDACKS- FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 P.M. WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain, snowmelt, and ice jams continues to be possible.
* WHERE...The southwest Adirondacks, the western Mohawk Valley, and the Upper Hudson Valley.
* WHEN...From 2 P.M. EDT Wednesday through Thursday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Mild temperatures through tonight will allow snow on the ground to continue to ripen and melt. There will also be moderate to locally heavy rain this afternoon into tonight. The combination of runoff from snow melt and rainfall will result in rising rivers that will likely cause ice to break up and flow, potentially resulting in ice jams and associated flooding.
