NWS: High Wind Warnings for Tug Hill and Western Adirondacks Regions Thursday evening through Friday

JEFFERSON & LEWS COUNTIES: HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 1 PM EST FRIDAY.

* WHAT...Southeast winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected. The strongest winds will be tonight on the Tug Hill, and in downslope areas to the north of the Tug Hill and down the Black River Valley.

* WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

 

OLD FORGE/WESTERN ADIRONDACKS: HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM EST FRIDAY.

* WHAT...Southeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.

* WHERE...In New York, Northern Herkimer, Hamilton, Northern Warren, Washington, Rensselaer, and Columbia Counties. In Vermont, Bennington County.

* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 6 PM EST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong southeast winds are expected this evening into Friday morning, shifting to the west southwest behind a cold front Friday afternoon.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds. Use caution if you must drive.
