LEWIS COUNTY- No tornados have officially been confirmed by the National Weather Service since Sunday’s powerful line of storms that raged through the North Country.
With that said, meteorologists from the NWS Buffalo, NY office have shared numerous reports of localized and isolated pockets of damage throughout southern Lewis County, including Port Leyden and Turin areas, where there were trees and wires down.
Similar reports were documented in the Lowville area, the NWS added.
For context, a pair of tornado warnings were issued late Sunday afternoon and early evening, including one for parts of Jefferson County and the other for Northeastern Oneida County (which have both expired since).
Again, as of this publication, there are no confirmed reports via the NWS to suggest an actual tornado touchdown locally on Sunday.
According to National Grid, over 60,000 customers have had their power restored since the storms, which produced wind gusts over 70-mph in certain locations.
Furthermore, National Grid says that the Central New York region was hardest hit by this line of storms, including Lewis and Oneida Counties.
"Power is being consistently restored in these regions and most impacted customers are expected to have power restored by 5 p.m. today (Monday)," National Grid said in a released statement.
"Isolated and scattered single-customer outages in the hardest-to-access areas may potentially extend into tomorrow (Tuesday)."
Be sure to stay tuned later on this week, as we have arranged an on-air segment with the NWS to focus on the history of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in the North Country, during the month of March.
