Authorities have announced the results from this year’s DWI holiday enforcement campaign.
From December 14, 2022 through New Year’s Day, the New York State Police arrested and processed 453 people for intoxicated driving. That’s down from last-year’s tally of 522.
"One of the mission priorities of the New York State Police is to improve highway safety by focusing on reducing drunk and impaired driving crashes,” said Acting State Police Superintendent Steven A. Nigrelli.
“Through our recent enforcement efforts, as well the work Troopers do on a daily basis, we have made our roadways safer for the public.”
During the enforcement campaign, police investigated the scenes of nearly 4,500 accidents across the state, resulting in over 500 injuries and 8 fatalities.
Here in Troop D, State Police arrested 41 for intoxicated driving.
Statewide, Troopers issued over 11,000 tickets for speeding; over 900 tickets for both distracted driving and seatbelt violations and over 300 tickets for failing to move over.
