Old Forge to Celebrate July 4th

Published on June 27, 2017

OLD FORGE--June 26, 2017.  The Fourth of July celebration in Old Forge has been a popular family event for generations of locals as well as visitors to the Adirondack Park. As is the tradition, the celebration will be held on July Fourth, which falls on Tuesday this year.

Tuesday’s celebration includes a free lakefront concert performed by the Floyd Community Instrumental Ensemble starting at 7:30pm. After the Independence Day music, spectacular fireworks over the Old Forge Pond will highlight the festivities. This year’s show is being expanded thanks to additional financial support provided by the Central Adirondack Association. (Please note that the fireworks will only be cancelled in the event of a severe thunderstorm.)

The Floyd Community Instrumental Ensemble has been creating a variety of music throughout the Mohawk Valley for over 20 years. What began as a small group of 10 young Floyd United Methodist musicians has grown to a strong, committed assembly of at least 50 people. While the Ensemble boasts several professional musicians who maintain the core of the group, there are also many young adults and others from a variety of backgrounds. The uniqueness of the ensemble mirrors the vast repertoire of music that this ensemble is able to perform. The music often reflects the unique waterfront venue and includes patriotic tunes for the famous Fourth of July Concert in Old Forge, as well as old favorites from America's "Big Band Era." Concert goers also will enjoy toe tapping medleys made famous by groups and musicians such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Count Basie, and Glen Campbell, as well as tunes from shows like Mama Mia!, Titanic, and Grease.

This is the largest holiday weekend of the entire year. Families can enjoy the Enchanted Forest Water Safari, New York State’s largest water theme park, take a boat ride on the Fulton Chain of Lakes with the Old Forge Lake Cruises, board the Adirondack Scenic Railroad for a train ride into the wilderness, be dazzled by spectacular views of the surrounding mountains from the McCauley Mountain Scenic Chairlift, or relax with many other options, including View, the new arts center. All attractions and activities are open for this terrific summer season. Recreational opportunities abound, including hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, river rafting, horseback riding, seaplane rides, museums, golfing, fishing, sailing, shopping, and more.
