JEFFERSON COUNTY- One person is deceased and another is injured following a one car accident late Thursday that shut down a section of roadway, authorities say.
It happened shortly before 10:00 p.m. on State Route 26, town of Champion, not too far from Carthage High School.
According to State Police Investigation, Peter R. Schroy, 54, of Carthage, NY was driving south in a 2019 Ford pick-up. The truck crashed into a group of trees after exiting the western edge of the road.
The crash impact ejected passenger Donald F. Gerber, 56, of Carthage, NY from the truck. He was pronounced deceased on scene.
Meanwhile, Schroy was rescued from the wreckage and flown to SUNY Upstate Medical Center. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.
Although the investigation remains ongoing, Troopers did say the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred.
