Published on November 01, 2022

FORESTPORT- A skunk officially tested positive for rabies a-few-days-ago in the town of Forestport.

This development is according to the Oneida County Health Department. Officials did say that one person was exposed to the animal, thus receiving post-exposure prophylaxis.

The skunk was tested last Wednesday, with the result showing positive the next day.

Authorities remind listeners that animals that show odd behaviors, such as drooling and or foaming at the mouth, or no display of fear and allow you to get close are all warning signs of a rabid critter.

If you suspect a rabid animal or a possible exposure to a rabid animal, you are encouraged to contact your nearest health department.
