Oneida County will erect 100 road signs throughout the county to help warn motorists of increased farming equipment traffic during fall harvest.

The move is known as ‘Share the Road’ Farm Safety Initiative, according to the County Executive Anthony Picente. “We owe a great deal of gratitude to our farmers and it’s critical that we make their safety and livelihood a top priority,” he said.

“With so many people moving into the rural parts of our county, it’s important to remind motorists that they’re sharing the roadways daily with our famers and their equipment,” Sheriff Rob Maciol added.

Signs are placed based on numerous factors, including high-traffic roads, large concentrations of dairy farms and agriculture and data that shows frequent farm equipment v. vehicle accidents.

Targeted areas here locally include Ava, Floyd, Lee, Remsen, Rome, Steuben, Trenton and Western.
