Over 13,000 tickets issued, nearly 250 arrested for alleged DWI during annual New York Thanksgiving law enforcement blitz

Statistics have been released for this year’s Thanksgiving holiday law enforcement crackdown.

Across New York State, Troopers and local law enforcement managed to issue over 13,000 tickets during the blitz, while also arresting nearly 250 suspects for alleged impaired or intoxicated driving.

Funded thanks to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the enforcement began the day before Thanksgiving and concluded that following Sunday.

Throughout the campaign, Troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints, deployed additional DWI patrols, and ticketed drivers who were using handheld electronic devices.

In addition to the number of motorists arrested for drunken driving, police also responded to over 1,200 crashes, including two fatal ones.

Here in Troop D, 30 were arrested for drunk driving; while 380 were ticketed for speeding; 18 cited for distracted driving; 113 cited for seatbelt violations and another 12 ticketed for failing to move over.

That all adds up to 1,305 tickets issued across Troop D during the enforcement campaign, the State Police said.
