ALBANY, NY- More than 46,000 tickets were issued across New York for the latest ‘Speed Week’ law enforcement campaign crackdown.
The initiative ran this year from August 10 – 14, where Troopers and local law enforcement targeted those heavy on the driving foot.
The goal of the campaign, according to the New York State DMV office, is to send a message that speeding is dangerous, as it is statistically a major factor for when it comes to preventable crashes.
This time around, police filed over 14,000 speeding tickets and arrested nearly 900 suspects for impaired driving.
“Whether it’s distracted or aggressive driving or speeding, it’s careless driving behavior that needlessly claims lives and causes serious injuries every year,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James.
As a reminder, the annual Labor Day Weekend law enforcement crackdown is underway across New York State through Monday, September 1.
