Police to release driver name in fatal tractor trailer accident in Rome

ROME-***Update as of MondayOctober 6, 2025*** ROME- The driver of the truck has been identified as Michael Lucas, age 39, of Turin, NY.  At this time, the investigation is still ongoing however it is believed that speed is a contributing factor.

It happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. on State Route 49, the Sheriff’s Office said. A dump-style trailer rig, which was loaded stone and belonged to ‘Real Deal Landscaping’ out of Cold Brook, NY, was heading west and while navigating the exit ramp for Martin Street, the driver lost control.

The rig ended up rolling over a guiderail and came to rest with the cab upside-down.

The Sheriff's Office was also assisted on scene by the New York State Police, New York State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit, New York State DEC, New York State Department of Transportaion, Rome Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance, Mikes Towing & Auto Repair, and the Onondaga County Medical Examiners Office.
