Property damage accident leads to DWI arrest for Lewis County resident, Troopers say

EVANS MILLS- A North Country resident is accused of intoxicated driving in Jefferson County, authorities say.

Michael A. Benware, 55, of Harrisville, NY was arrested Monday afternoon by the New York State Police (Philadelphia). Benware is formally charged with one count each of DWI (first-offense) and operating a motor vehicle (w/a .08 of 1% BAC).

According to Troopers, these charges were issued in the wake of a reported property damage accident a little while prior to the arrest in the village of Evans Mills.

At press time, police said that Benware was issued with an appearance ticket.
