LOWVILLE- Lewis County Department of Planning and Community Development is leading efforts to complete a county-wide Complete Streets Plan and the public is encouraged to share their ideas during an upcoming open house.
Aimed for Wednesday, August 9 at the Lewis County Education Center (7395 East Road, Lowville, NY), community members, business owners, and visitors are encouraged to stop in anytime during the event to learn about complete streets, share project ideas, and express a vision for Lewis County’s villages and hamlets.
The gathering will last from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A “complete street” is defined as a roadway that is designed and operated to enable safe access for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation users of all ages and abilities to allow for safe movement along and across a roadway.
A county-wide complete streets plan will provide consistent guidelines to ensure that any new bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure align with the county’s rural character.
The initiative stems from a 2022 Community Health Assessment, completed by Lewis County Public Health.
Stay tuned, we will be sharing more details soon.
