Rabid animal case confirmed recently in Leyden by Lewis County Public Health office

LEWIS COUNTY- The Public Health office is advising the general public that a Raccoon tested positive recently for rabies in the local area.

For this case in particular, this rabid raccoon was discovered in the town of Leyden and officials are clarifying how there was no known human or domestic animal contact.

Following suit with a growing list of numerous other confirmed rabid animals throughout the county, public health officials are stressing the importance of ensuring your pets are kept up to date with their rabies vaccinations.

Rabid animals in the wild can very often be spotted behaving abnormally, including lacking a fear of human presence and foaming at the mouth.
