LOWVILLE- The 7-Eleven Convenience Store is aimed to sue the town of Lowville over a property assessment that store figures say this year was unfair.
These developments are coming from WWNY-TV. The 7-Eleven Store is suing for their property assessment to be lowered from $988,000 to $98,800.
Village Mayor Dan Salmon told reporters that a lower assessment would subsequently raise local village, town, county and school taxes.
In its court filing, 7-Eleven reportedly has described the assessment as excessive and unlawful.
The company would like to see the assessment brought down to around $100,000 because that’s how other comparable properties are assessed.
However, the Mayor argued that his own house is assessed for more than the $98,000 figure.
It is reported that 7-Eleven paid over $1 million for the property.
“Government can be extremely difficult now because everybody’s looking to benefit or cut costs and we try to provide the services that we enjoy in this village,” Mayor Salmon told reporters.
