JEFFERSON COUNTY- An apartment home was destroyed in a blaze Sunday morning in Carthage, NY.
It happened sometime shortly before 10:00 a.m. at 733 Alexandria Street. Carthage Firefighters told reporters from WWNY-TV that a cause is still under investigation as of this report.
With that said, the flames did spark in the first apartment on the bottom floor and that four out of the five apartments are now “unlivable” in the wake of this fire.
A path was created by firefighters for some people trapped on the second floor to escape.
Several neighboring fire departments provided mutual aid, including West Carthage, Deferiet, Natural Bridge, Castorland, Felts Mills, Northpole, and Great Bend.
Other than a few minor injuries to first responders, emergency official confirmed that no one else was hurt, yet; there are four families that have been displaced from the structure.
Though there were no human injuries, it is reported that there were several cats that lived in the home, with some of them that did not make it.
