JEFFERSON COUNTY- The indictment of a man, who is accused of driving drunk in a fatal wreck this spring in the North Country, suggests he was going over twice the legal speed limit when the crash occurred.
This development is according to the latest from WWNY-TV.
As recently reported, Peter Schroy, 55, of Carthage, NY was formally arrested and charged by the New York State Police last Friday with numerous felony and misdemeanor counts, including vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter and DWI.
The indictment against Schroy suggests that he was traveling nearly 125-mph before slamming into a group of trees.
To clarify, the legal speed limit at the scene of the wreck was 55-mph. The crash occurred on May 4 on State Route 26 in the town of Champion.
A 56-year-old passenger, Donald Gerber, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on scene by emergency responders.
The indictment also alleges that Schroy had a .18% BAC when he was processed after the wreck, which is over twice the legal limit of .08%.
In the wake of his arraignment in court last Friday, Schroy was sent to the Jefferson County Jail, where he posted a $20,000 bond and was released.
