HERKIMER COUNTY- After cutting of ties with Poland Fire Department in August, the Poland Joint Fire District is working to establish new coverage contracts with neighboring fire departments.
According to the latest reports from WKTV, the district board held a public hearing Monday at Poland Central School to inform area taxpayers on proposed contracts with four nearby fire departments.
These include: Deerfield, Newport, Remsen and Trenton. If approved, the agreement would have the districts provide personnel and equipment in exchange for a payment of nearly $12,000 for the rest of the year.
Vice Chair of the Poland Fire District, Ralph Potasiewicz, told reporters that fire companies would be able to respond immediately with these new contracts, instead of waiting to be toned out minutes later if a response is not confirmed from the original agency, which would have been Poland Fire Company.
We are expecting another update again soon.
