Residents warned to be wary of phone scam reported by neighboring region police department

HERKIMER COUNTY- A police department in the Mohawk Valley is warning residents to be wary of a phone scam that has popped up recently.

According to the Herkimer Village Police Department, there have been several complaints from locals about a phone call, where the caller suggests that the Herkimer Police is looking for them.

“The Herkimer Police would contact you directly by phone or at your home, never through a third party that isn't law enforcement,” the Herkimer Police Department said in a released statement.

“Please do not provide any personal information over the phone, hang up and contact us directly at the Police Department for further information.”

Law enforcement officials urge residents to be vigilant and alert for similar scams that might be circulating throughout other nearby communities.
