LOWVILLE- A single stall garage was damaged following a fire over the holiday weekend.
Alarms sounded shortly before 10:30 a.m. Saturday for Lowville Fire Department. They responded to 5384 Stowe Street, where first responders discovered a working structure fire in the garage, which was attached to the home.
Within five-minutes of arrival, Fire Chief Joe Austin says responding units managed to douse the remaining flames, as the homeowner got a head-start in doing so using a nearby garden hose.
In short, there was damage reported in the garage and the entryway into the house, but no one was injured.
At press time, Chief Austin said that the fire sparked in a trash can that contained oily rags, which can ignite from spontaneous combustion.
Members from Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Lowville Village Police and Lewis County Search & Rescue all assisted.
The home is owned by Cody and Brianna Peters.
